Two Days in Paradise: Adang Resort

Adang Resort- Private Beach Resort

To anyone looking for that picture perfect beach vacation, there’s no doubt that Thailand is at the top of your list. With white sand beaches, turquoise waters and endless sunshine, Thailand truly is the ideal beach destination. Having so many incredible seaside spots to choose from, it’s a seriously difficult decision picking which one to visit. Different vibes, prices, sizes and bodies of water combine for a ton of factors to consider when planning your trip.

Having spent a little over a month hopping from one beach to the next, we’ve been lucky enough to have gotten a pretty decent taste for Thai island life. As we continued our search for the perfect stretch of sand, we headed south towards the island of Koh Lipe. World famous for its crystal clear waters and spectacular sunsets, we were beyond excited for this next stop in our adventure.

After doing some research about hotels on the island, we stumbled across the Adang Resort. Located just off the fabled Sunset Beach on Koh Lipe, the Adang Resort stands as the only accommodation on the island of Koh Adang. Part of the protected Tarutao National Marine Park, Koh Adang sits in all of it’s untouched glory. With dense, towering jungles, turquoise waters, sandy beaches and incredible snorkeling, Koh Adang is an unparalleled tropical paradise.

From start to finish, our stay at Adang Resort was fantastic. Everything from the accommodations to the staff to the breathtaking views made for a superb time. We stayed here for three days and two nights, and it was hands down some of the most peaceful and relaxing of our trip. Situated on a private stretch of golden sand beach and framed by lush, tropical forest on either side, it’s an atmosphere that begs for tranquility - and that is exactly what we were aiming for.

Although it’s located on a totally different island, getting to the Adang Resort is just as easy as getting to Koh Lipe. They will pick you up with one of their private long tail boats free of charge, which is definitely a nice touch after the expensive boat ride to Koh Lipe. The ride from Koh Lipe to Adang is an easy and incredibly beautiful 15 minute ride across some of the clearest waters you’ll ever see. Once you arrive, the staff eagerly greets you with helping hands. After you check in, all your worries are out of the window and it’s time to start your vacation.

Since Koh Adang is part of the Tarutao National Marine Park, there is an unreal amount of nature to be explored and enjoyed. Due to the protected status of the island, the forests and surrounding waters are in excellent shape - especially for Thailand. Monkeys swing from the treetops, and the sound of Hornbills’ flapping wings fill the air around you.

You'll find your own paradise if you happen to be into snorkeling or diving. After an easy swim off of the beach, you will be looking at some of the most incredible coral in the world. The bright, neon-colored fish and swaying anemones were so vibrant and beautiful, it was hard to believe it was actually real. Adang Resort rents out snorkel sets for free, making exploring the underwater world as inexpensive as it is awesome. Along with snorkels, they also have complimentary kayaks making the surrounding beaches and coves easily accessible. However, one of the top things to do is to take out a kayak right before the sun goes down and experience a to die for sunset on the water like you would see in the movies.

Also, if you’re interested in visiting some of the other islands close by, the staff can help arrange a private boat tour for the day. Although we didn’t end up booking any tours, we chatted with a family at the resort who did, and said they had an absolute blast. Additionally, the resort offers complimentary ferry services to and from Koh Lipe about three times a day. This allows you to experience the buzz of Koh Lipe during the day and escape to serenity at night.

As if all of this wasn’t enough, there are also some great hikes starting from the Adang Resort. In just over an hour, you can hike through the national park to an incredible viewpoint overlooking the sea and all of Koh Lipe. While it’s a fairly easy hike, we would recommend bringing some decent shoes along with your national park entrance ticket, because the park rangers will definitely ask for it. If you happen to visit closer to the wet season, there’s also a waterfall close by that’s supposed to be beautiful when it’s flowing.

These adventures will definitely work up your appetite, and boy, are you in for a treat. The Adang Resort has one restaurant on its property, and we absolutely loved every single meal we were served. The prices don’t differ from the restaurants on Koh Lipe, which is always a plus. However, our favorite part was definitely Adang Resort’s staff. They were so incredibly kind and helpful, which really makes all the difference. Additionally, the resort offers a delicious complimentary breakfast spread every morning, equipped with toast, eggs, curries, fried chicken, pad Thai, and anything else you could have wanted! Come on, who doesn’t love free breakfast, especially with a view like this...

In addition to having a killer breakfast on deck, the regular menu is super delicious too! Serving up everything from traditional Thai food such as curries and stir-fries to western foods like French fries and surprisingly amazing chicken nuggets, it’s hard to go hungry during your stay. Our personal favorite was their Massaman curry, which was actually some of the best we’ve had on our trip! Considering how many Massaman curries we’ve had, that says a lot.

Adang Resort was without a doubt one of the best experiences we’ve had in Thailand thus far. Over the course of our travels, we’ve been lucky enough to see some pretty beautiful places, and some especially beautiful beaches. With that being said, Koh Adang and the Adang Resort absolutely blew our expectations away. A special thank you to the incredible staff at Adang Resort, and especially to their manager Kla who went above and beyond to ensure that we (and everyone else) had an experience nothing short of amazing.

If you’re considering a trip to Koh Lipe, we would 100 percent recommend staying at the Adang Resort- it will definitely not disappoint.
