Beachside in Batu Ferringhi: The DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang

The DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang

After spending a few days exploring the heart of George Town and investigating all that its historic streets had to offer, we hopped on the bus and made our way to Batu Ferringhi. Located along the northern coast of Penang Island, Batu Ferringhi is a pleasant stretch of beach offering sand, sun and a nice escape from the city. Well known for its beaches, luxury resorts and buzzing night market, the area makes for a friendly break after a few days in George Town. In search of some good quality rest and relaxation, we checked into The DoubleTree Resort and took a nice, deep breath.

While we usually tend to stay in smaller accommodations, the DoubleTree was a welcome change of pace and offered an unbelievable collection of amenities at its property. Upon checking into the sprawling lobby, we immediately knew we would love it here. Boasting a beautiful edgeless pool, an artificial beach and a number of comfortable cabanas, we found ourselves loving the view and relaxing our days away in the picture perfect digs.

Although The DoubleTree Resort tends to be the ideal peaceful getaway, the hotel’s location does not hinder your ability to explore all that Penang has to offer. Providing free daily shuttle services to both Batu Ferringhi as well as George Town, experiencing Penang is a quick and comfortable van ride away. Plus, the DoubleTree even has its own dedicated bus stop directly in front of the hotel, making public transportation an easy and convenient option as well. We used both of these methods for commuting to and from George Town during our stay and had no issues at all. Lastly, Uber is always an option because it’s almost as cheap at the bus! It cost us a total of 16 RM (~4 USD) to get from The DoubleTree to central GeorgeTown… What a steal!

Given the intense heat that often hovers around Penang this time of year, we couldn’t have asked for a better place to cool off and escape the blazing high temperatures. On the day that we checked in, we managed to spend a solid 5 hours poolside, only moving to dive in or to order a snack from the restaurant - certainly not a bad way to spend the afternoon.

Located on the bottom floor of the property, The Makan Kitchen serves up some delicious food that will be sure to satisfy every palette. If you’re in the mood for a little Malay flavor, we would definitely recommend ordering some of the satay skewers - they’re absolutely delicious! While our poolside snacks were nothing short of awesome, where The Makan Kitchen really shines is in the breakfast department. Each morning the bottom floor of the hotel transforms into a breakfast lovers’ paradise. Offering up everything from traditional western options like eggs and pancakes, to delicious curries and fresh made roti canai, the breakfast here is on point. Tasty food, fresh coffee and endless amounts of both? It really doesn’t get much better than that.

Once you’ve managed to emerge from your breakfast induced food coma, there’s endless activities to keep you entertained. Sporting a full spa and well equipped workout room, it’s the perfect place to relax and get in touch with your inner health nut. If you’re interested in a cold beer or delicious cocktail while over looking the water, the onsite bar and lounge has excellent happy hour deals. We definitely took full advantage of The DoubleTree’s many amazing amenities.

If you’re looking to get a little sand between your toes, it’s just a quick flight of stairs away. The hotel has its own private pedestrian bridge over the road making the walk down to the beach a total (sea) breeze. With a perfect little stretch of sand punctuated by picturesque boulders on either side, it’s the ideal place to relax and soak up a little Vitamin D.

While all the things like the pool, fitness room and breakfast made our stay just that much better, one of the best parts definitely had to be the room itself. Super modern and unbelievably comfortable, our room at the Double Tree was perfect for two people. With a gorgeous balcony overlooking the water, a spacious living area and a ridiculously comfortable bed, we couldn’t have asked for anything more.

The DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang has it all. The food, the room and everything in between makes this hotel nothing short of incredible. However, we’d be mistaken if we didn’t mention our favorite part of our stay: the staff. From being greeted with warm cookies on arrival, to helping us with suggestions on what to do and even arranging free shuttles to town, the staff at the Double Tree was simply amazing. It seemed like every time we got onto the elevator we found ourselves talking about how unbelievably nice everyone was.

Whether it was relaxing by the pool, enjoying the delicious breakfast spread or just chatting with the staff, our stay at the Double Tree was exceptional. Thanks to our time here, not only were we able to take time to relax and unwind, but also see an amazing side of Penang we might not have otherwise. We left feeling relaxed, refreshed, and eager to return.
